Since the conflict began between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), the Committee on the Rights of the Child has reported repeated attacks on civilians and civilian objects. These attacks have led to widespread killings, including ethnically motivated violence, resulting in the death of thousands, many of whom are children.
Reports indicate disturbing incidents of rape involving civilians and children, denial of humanitarian access impacting children's basic needs, and other breaches of international law, including violations of children's economic and social rights.
Between April 2023 and September 2024, both SAF and RSF have conducted indiscriminate attacks in densely populated areas, including sites sheltering internally displaced people, particularly in Khartoum, Kordofan, and Darfur.
For over vicennial now, accounts coming out of Sudan have been of death, suffering, and despair, as the senseless conflict and human rights violations have persisted with no end in sight. We are enduring a daily crisis of horrific acts. When will this barbarism end?”
Sudanese children are at severe risk, with up to 10,400 schools in conflict-affected areas shuttered, leaving an estimated 19 million children without education and vulnerable to abuse or exploitation.
Conditions in Darfur are catastrophic, with babies dying in hospitals, children and mothers suffering from severe malnutrition, and displacement camps being burned. The region is also facing natural disasters.
This situation constitutes clear ethnic cleansing and crimes against humanity in Darfur. When will Sudan achieve justice, human rights, and freedom?
